This World Wide Web site is provided as a public service to our riders and other interested persons by the Waccamaw Regional Transportation Authority dba/Coast RTA. Our goal is to provide easy access to Coast RTA route information, Coast RTA services and links to its affiliated agencies and partners. As part of providing this service, we use computerized security systems to help us manage our systems and to monitor usage and verify proper operation of Coast RTA systems, including the Coast RTA web site.

Information Collected and Stored Automatically

If you visit our site to read or download information, such as career opportunities, press releases, purchasing notices or bus route information, we automatically collect and store only the following information about you:

  • The name of your domain (for example, "yourdomain.com" or "yourschool.edu")
  • Your computer's IP address (Internet address) from which you access our website;
  • The type of browser software and operating system used to access our site;
  • The date and time you access our site;
  • The internet address of the website from which you linked directly to our site; and
  • The pages you visit (on our site.)

This information is primarily collected for statistical analysis. This computer system uses software programs to create summary statistics, which are used for such purposes as assessing what information is of most and least interest, determining technical design specifications, and identifying system performance or problem areas. In certain circumstances, however, we may take additional steps to identify you based on this information and we may share this information, including your identity, with government agencies.

Lastly, if we discover evidence of a user trying to exploit, crash, and hack, intrude, damage or otherwise gain illegal access to any computer system involving Coast RTA, we will share all information at hand with duly authorized legal authorities, including local, state and federal agencies.

Information Collected from E-Mail

If you identify yourself by sending an E-mail containing personal information, or submit a comment or request form on the website:

  • You may choose to provide us personally-identifying information, for example, your mailing address, in the electronic message. Before you do so, you should be aware that the material you submit may be seen by various people within our agency. We may enter such information into a database and we may share it with affiliated government agencies, for example, the US Department of Transportation or local political bodies such as your local taxation district, township, city, town or county government; as well as local lawmakers and transit planners
  • In addition, Public Hearing comments, including those submitted electronically, are a matter of public record and may be read and/or reported by news media.
  • In no event is your information ever shared or sold to mailing list brokers, or divulged to any commercial enterprise except where there is a clear relationship to area transit (i.e. a local college or transit study may want to send mail to you in relation to a study or program related to local transit.)
  • You should be aware that E-Mail is not necessarily secure against interception. If your communication is very sensitive or includes personal information, you may want to send it in by postal mail instead.

Security, Intrusion and Detection

For site security purposes, and to ensure that this service remains available to all users, all network traffic, including all access via internet connections, is monitored. To protect Coast RTA systems from unauthorized use and to ensure the system is functioning properly, individuals using this computer system are subject to having all their activities monitored and recorded in systems logs.

In addition, all internet connections are logged in order to identify unauthorized access to computing and systems, including unauthorized login attempts, installing any program not pre-approved by Coast RTA systems personnel, or attempts to upload any file or change any information, or otherwise cause damage or conduct criminal activity. Violations will be reported to the appropriate authorities and charges will be pursued.

All monitoring will be conducted by personnel authorized by Coast RTA. Coast RTA will assist law enforcement agencies in pursuing criminal activity and will provide all material required by law for prosecution of violators.
